My List of Great Investing and Personal Finance Podcasts

Finance Podcasts

I commute back and forth to work for about 1.5 hours per day plus I run for approximately 40 minutes. This gives me a lot of time to kill so my iPod is my favorite thing in the world (next to my family of course). Typically I am glued to tech podcasts such as TWIT or MacBreak Weekly. However, recently I have been listening to more and more investing and personal finance podcasts. There is some really cool stuff out there and I wanted to provide my readers with an overview of what I consider to be the top investing and/or personal finance podcasts.

1. NCN Podcast

NCN does a real down-to-earth podcast that talks openly about what has worked for he and his family in dealing with debt and staying out of debt. It is one of those podcasts where you feel a connection to the speaker because of the engaging style. The topics are interesting and skewed towards debt repayment and doing simple things to manage cash flow better.

2. The Dave Ramsey Podcast

I know there are a lot of opinions out there about Dave Ramsey and his style and principles. However, I find his podcast, which is essentially a 40-minute chunk of his radio show, good for two reasons. The first reason is that it keeps my mind focused on doing things correctly with my personal finances. It is a continual reminder to do the basic things that allow us to be financially successful like keeping our debt down. The second reason is more voyeuristic in nature – it is absolutely amazing to listen to the stories of people who call in! Some of these folks have no clue and I actually find I learn from them on what not to do. One of the things I don’t like is his attention he gives to mutual funds without any talk about cost.

3. The Disciplined Investor

This one has a bit of sales slick on it for the book, but the topics can be interesting. Some episodes are better than others, but it does provide some interesting discussion on various investing topics. It has stuff on day trading and other more short term strategies but I find this useful as it gives some insight into how the market works.

4. Wallstrip

Wallstrip is a quick 4 – 5 minute podcast that typically covers one company per day in a light and conversational manner. For example, they looked at Google and toured the Google campus which was interesting to see. If does not get into fundamentals of a company such as financial analysis, but gives a quick overview of the company and its products. I haven’t actually done anything with the companies they have profiled, but I do find it interesting. It is more about business and culture than investing in particular, but it is a quick listen.

5. Sound Investing

Sound Investing is a a weekly radio show converted to a podcast that provides market insight, interviews, and other topical items. It can be very mutual fund focused but at least they are cognizant of fees. The podcasts are a bit longer – good for that run or bus ride you need to do.

Other mentions include the MoneyGirl podcast and Kiplingers Personal Finance podcast.

It is amazing the impact podcasts have had on my listening habits. I used to listen to a lot more music but now I find that I have all these podcasts and others that I have difficulty getting through them all.

I would love to hear about some other personal finance or investing podcasts that you subscribe to – please use the comments and let us all know.

Hey thanks! I always love new listening material. I’ve become a fan of podcasts lately because I can do other things while I listen which makes me feel more productive.

This is great. I’ve been looking for more PF podcasts. I also listen to the NCN, Dave Ramsey, and Wallstrip podcasts (and TWiT and others by Leo Laporte for that matter), but I will subscribe for the other two now as well.

Great minds think alike. I have forsaken my radio for the iPod during my commute as well. I listen to MacBreak, Cranky Geeks, etc. Thanks for giving me great new choices for content.

Gotta love Jim Puplava. Jim and his mates can be repetitive (peak oil and flight to gold) but most of the guests they interview give outstanding insights…
