Sold Merck - Buying More Procter & Gamble

Written by The Dividend Guy on April 27, 2006

My trade to sell my Merck shares went through today. I sold 34.1309 shares at $34.72 per share for a total payout of $1,303.66 (including foreign exchange and commissions). I am still very confident in my decision to sell based on the fact that they are going to fight each suit against them individually and the unlikelihood that dividend increases may be few and far between. Even if they do raise the dividend, I will not regret my decision as I am confident with my Pfizer stock.

As a result of this trade, I have entered an order to up my stack in Procter & Gamble. The stock has begun a trend up after a sharp fall of late and I would like to add as these lower prices. I think it has been beaten down based on a couple of factors (Wal-Mart’s destocking, Gillette sales not up to snuff in Asia), that are more short term problems as opposed to long term ones. I see this drop as an opportunity to buy more at this reduced price.
