Weekly Dividend Investing Roundup – April 4, 2008

Weekly Roundup

Welcome to the April 4th edition of my weekly dividend blog and article roundup. Each week, I try to highlight a number of blog posts from various personal finance bloggers and also try to include articles from other mainstream media sources. The posts and articles are not always dividend investing related as there is more to investing than just dividends. Topics such as asset allocation and managing fees are important concepts as well.

The Carnivals

Carnival of Money Stories – April Fools Edition at Chief Family Officer included my post, What Music Band Nine Inch Nails Taught Me About Investing.

The Carnival of Everything Finance included the article Trick Your Brain into Making More Money.

Dividend Growth Investor did a good job on the growing Festival of Stocks. He was kind enough to include my analysis of The Home Depot.

Stock Trading to Go did the behemoth Carnival of Personal Finance. My post, Pension Fund Asset Allocations You Can Use was included.

The Posts and Articles

In response to my post on dual-class shares, Financial Jungle tempered my post by saying that certain companies do deserve a look even if they have a dual-share structure. He made a good point by saying that dual-class company, “…Teck Cominco which [has] hiked their dividend 10-fold since 2004.” Fair enough.

Matisse Capital Management posted an article on the Dividend Aristocrats.

The ETF Guide posted an article title, Dividend Investing In A Recessionary Environment.

LifeHacker quoted well-know PF blog Get Rich Slowly in their short article on how to avoid big mistakes in investing.

The Div Guy quoted Kiplinger in his recent post about dividend reinvestment plans (DRIPs).

The Wealthy Boomer listed the 10 biggest retirement mistakes – my favorite is “Planning for your retirement when you are already retired” – No Sh$t.

Tyler at Dividend Money did a good summary post on How to Choose Dividend Growth Stocks.

Dividend reinvesting rocks. Dividends4Life gave his view, and rightly argued that you don’t need a DRIP to reinvest dividends.

DavidMakesCents.com updated his financial goals recently. He has been buying into the market weakness we saw recently.

I really liked this article by Millionaire Money Habits. It is a really inspiring post about making money.

Growing Money is kicking off a stock contest. I have entered my choice of stock – Citigroup (C). I own this in my portfolio and really want to see some recovery happen with it.

Canadian Dream: Free at 45 discussed risk in one of his recent blog posts.

The MoneyGardener had a look at Clorox as a potential investment and is calling it as good value at these prices.

More retirement talk over at The Digerati Life – are you on track to meet your goals.

The was a great article by Moneymonk on thinking long-term in your investment horizon. Short and powerful.

The Financial Buff wrote a good article on fees – if you are paying 1% on your assets you may be paying too much.

Check out the comments on Is Investing in Individual Stocks Merely Gambling – Or Something More? over at Simple Dollar. Lots of good stuff in there.

Middle Class Millionaire listed some recent dividend increases.

Enough Wealth thinks it might be time to invest in stocks again.

The American Dividend Investor provided insight into his stock selection process.

That is a big list this week. That to everyone for their great posts. See you tomorrow.

I hope to flesh out a few more of the details as some readers have requested.
I think the Money Gardner is on to something with Clorox as well.
