Weekly Dividend Investing Roundup – October 19, 2007

Weekly Roundup

Time for another Dividend Guy Weekly Dividend Invesitng Roundup. Lot’s going on in the investing blogosphere this week so lets get right to it.

First off, some carnivals that I participated in:

Todd at Todd Sullivan’s – ValuePlays recently hosted the Festival of Stocks which included my recent analysis of 3M.

Mightly Bargain Hunter hosted the Carnival of Personal Finance which included my article questioning whether a dividend portfolio needs small-cap stocks or not.

On to some other interesting articles I ran across throughout the week:

1. MoneyNing asked all the PF bloggers why some folks read and follow money tips but never become rich. The key is constant focus and dedication to act on what we read and learn.

2. My somehow distant relative, The Div Guy, provided us with a list of stocks that USA Today calls good dividend investments for young people. The list is the Dividend Achievers list of stocks. Whether you are old or young, I think this list is a good place to start looking for dividend stock ideas.

3. Canada’s Globe and Mail discussed a new Canadian index called the S&P/TSX Canadian Dividend Aristocrats Index and is composed of the TSX-listed Canadian companies that have increased dividends annually for at least seven years.

4. Jonathan Cheveau of The Wealthy Boomer and The Financial Post wrote about global dividend funds that are starting to show up. Of course, with funds like these an investor needs to watch out for high MER’s. Personally, I would rather see an index fund that tracks global dividend payers than a mutual fund.

Thanks for reading and thanks to those who wrote the above articles.

A good way to invest in dividend achiever’s list is PowerShares etf’s traded on major exchanges. They have an achiever’s portfolio (PFM) and also, my favorite, an International Dividend Achiever’s (PID). Decent growing dividends and low fees. Only thing that isn’t so obvious is they are somewhat overweight financials.
