What is Your Dividend IQ?

Do you want to know what your Dividend IQ is? I did after coming across a “test” from Eaton Vance, a large financial services firm based in the US. Keeping in mind that Eaton Vance is in the business of selling their mutual funds to investors, I think the test is kind of cool in that it really highlights what I believe to be the best parts of dividend investing:

1. That dividends contribute a large part to a stocks future gains
2. Companies that increase dividends are an important component of a dividend strategy

If you focus on what the “test” is really asking then you will easily see that they are essentially teaching you these and other important factors when it comes to dividend based investing.

For what it is worth, my score was 8 out of 10 which makes me a Dividend Devotee.

To find the test, look in the top right hand corner on this page for the Dividend IQ Test link. Let me know what your score was…

I stumbled upon this blog today and saw this article on dividends. Took the test and also scored an 8. In 2006, we made a major change in our investment strategy. Moved all of our money to a new brokerage to save money on transaction fees, and started directing our own investments. Unless we have a compelling reason, we don’t consider a stock, ETF, CEF or mutual fund unless it has a dividend It’s nice to see someone with a similar strategy.
